IIT JAM Exam Notification Released: Important Dates Announced

The highly anticipated IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for Masters) exam notification for 2025 has been officially released, bringing clarity and excitement to aspiring candidates. This exam serves as a crucial gateway for those aiming to pursue postgraduate programs at prestigious institutions like IITs and IISc. About IIT JAM

The IIT JAM exam consists of 60 questions worth a total of 100 marks, administered over three hours as a Computer Based Test (CBT). It offers admission to postgraduate programs like MSc, MTech, MS (Research), MSc-MTech Dual Degree, and Joint MSc-PhD programs at top IITs and NITs.

The IIT JAM exam covers a wide range of subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Geology, Biotechnology, Mathematical Statistics, and the newly added Biological Sciences. The exam is divided into three sections:

  • Section A consists of 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with 10 questions rewarding 1 mark each and 20 questions rewarding 2 marks each.
  • Section B features 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), each worth 2 marks.
  • Section C includes 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions, with 10 questions worth 1 mark each and 10 questions worth 2 marks each.

The exam fee for one paper is Rs 900 for female candidates (all categories) and SC/ST/PwD candidates, and Rs 1800 for others. For two papers, the fee is Rs 1250 for female candidates (all categories) and SC/ST/PwD candidates, and Rs 2500 for others. There is a negative marking system in place for Section A: 1/3 marks are deducted for 1 mark questions and 2/3 marks are deducted for 2 mark questions.

Eligibility for the exam requires candidates to have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD) or an equivalent grade. No upper age limit for the exam. The total number of seats available is approximately 2900.

Timeline

The IIT JAM 2025 exam process will start with the release of the application form in the first week of September 2024. Candidates will have until the third week of October 2024 to fill out and submit their applications. Following this, the registration fee window will open in the third week of October, allowing candidates to complete their payment. A correction window will be available in the fourth week of October for any necessary changes to the application form. The admit cards are expected to be issued for download in the second week of January 2025, ahead of the exam scheduled for February 2, 2025. The results will be announced in the third week of March 2025, and the admission application process will commence in the second week of April 2025. This timeline provides a structured approach for candidates to follow, ensuring they can prepare and complete all necessary steps within the specified deadlines.
